Dr. Paul Gerd Heiden:
Dr. Heiden is a senior executive of Bayer, a multinational Fortune 500 Company specialized in Healthcare, Polymers,
Chemicals and Crop Science. He is the Berkeley Site Manager and Senior Vice President of Bayer Biologicals.
Dr. Heiden began his career with Tropon, a former pharmaceutical subsidiary of Bayer AG in 1987, where he became the
head of the Quality Assurance function. In 1992, he joined Bayer's Consumer Healthcare US operations as
the Head of Quality Assurance and member of the Executive Management Team. In 1996 he joined Bayer's Pharmaceutical
Division at its Leverkusen, Germany headquarters as the global Compliance Officer. Later as the Head of
Global Quality Assurance and a Member of the Pharma Management Committee, he was responsible for the Analytical
Development of Bayer's drug development pipeline and all worldwide Quality Assurance Operations. In 1999
he left this position and relocated again to the US on an assignment of Bayer's board to serve as a member
of the Leadership Committee of the Biological Products Division, specializing in Protein drugs originated from
Plasma fractionation and Biotechnology. In 2000 he assumed the responsibility of Technical Operations of the active
ingredients manufacturing plant of Bayer's Pharma Division in Wuppertal, Germany. Moving to the US in 2001 he has
served as the Vice President, Technical Operations for Biological Product's Berkeley, CA facility. Bayer's
biotechnology operations at this site produce protein therapeutics for the treatment of life-threatening diseases,
such as KogenateTM, a recombinant FVIII product for the treatment of hemophilia. Paul received his Ph.D.
degree of Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the University of Bonn, Germany in 1986 and was rewarded several academic
awards and distinctions for his work during his academic career.
Mr. Stephen Zelencik:
Stephen is the former Senior Vice President of sales
and marketing, Chief Marketing Officer, and Officer
of Advanced Micro Devices, AMD. Mr. Zelencik joined
AMD in 1970 as its first outside salesperson and as
the western area sales manager when AMD’s revenue
was at $800,000. He held various positions of increasing
responsibilities while building one of the most capable
international sales forces and establishing various
global strategic business alliances. He contributed
to taking AMD to a Fortune 500 company with sales of
$1 Billion in 1980, and $2.5 Billion in 1995. In May
2000, Mr. Zelencik stepped back from an active sales
role and began to focus on new market opportunities,
as Senior Vice President, Market Development and a Corporate
Officer. In April 2002, he stepped down as a Corporate
Officer and became Senior Advisor to various international
projects for the corporation. Prior to AMD, Mr. Zelencik
worked with Amphenol-Borg Corporation and Fairchild
Semiconductor in the area of sales and marketing. He
received his BSEE from Purdue University in August 1960.
Mr. Zelencik serves on the board of FASL (Fujitsu AMD
Semiconductor Ltd.) He also is an advisor to several
companies, public and private. He served in the US Army
Signal Corps. In October 1993 he received the “Outstanding
Electrical Engineering” award and in April 1998
he received the “Distinguished Engineering Alumnus”
award. Both awards are from Purdue University. He is
involved in many professional and community activities.
